Pineau des Charentes – Export

Pineau des Charentes is an alcoholic mix, it is one of the definitions of premix*. U.S. regulations did not permit mistelles (alcoholic mixes) ; however it is the case in France. In order to avoid high taxes, the juice was fermented slightly for the U.S. market : the mixture of two alcohols are indeed not considered as a premix. Nowadays, this practice is no longer at issue.
