Ré Island Potatoes

Charente-Maritime is a land well known for the production of high quality seed potatoes. Indeed, it benefits from favourable and diversified soils and climates, as well as a network of skills at all levels of the production chain, from breeding to marketing.

A convenient environment :
Ré Island offers an exceptional soil, where the calcareous, dry and sandy soils, are swept away by the marine breezes. On these lands, between Ars-en-Ré and Saint-Martin-de-Ré, around thirty producers cultivate this famous potato according to strict rules : AOC Specifications.

A recognized know-how :
Ré Island potato is the first potato, certified AOC (protected designation of origin) in 1998 :  it is a sign of recognition of a high quality product.
Producers follow indeed rigorous specifications concerning the seeding, the soil culture and marketing.
The potato is collected before maturity : its sugars did not have time to be transformed into starch. It is thus slightly sweet and low in calories. It is more hydrated as the winter potato and is also richer in vitamins, minerals and fibers.
